degree of personal relationship and trust between buyers
and sellers. You may also be aware about some shop where
the shopkeeper knows you and your family members. This
gives you a confidence on the shop and the shopkeeper. When

3. Shopping complexes and malls :Shopping complexes and the markets found in urban areas.
These complexes are big multi-storeyed, air-conditioned buildings having many shops in
them. Large shopping complex are called Shopping Malls.
One can get both branded as well as non-branded goods in
the shops in shopping malls.
The goods available in these markets are highly expensive
as they are promoted by advertising and the branded goods
claims better quality.
Chain stores are the shopping places that are established by
the same management. They sell goods that are similar in
General Store type and form; eg― Bata, McDonald, Bombay Dyeing, etc.
4. The Wholesale Market : Wholesaling refers to selling of goods to merchants usually in
large quantities for resale to consumers. A wholesaler purchases goods from producers and
manufactures in bulk because shopkeepers purchase different articles in large quantities. The
wholesaler serves as an important link between the producers and retailers. They purchase in
bulk and sell in small lots to retailers or industrial users. Wholesalers spend a large amount of
money to purchase a special variety of goods. They have to store goods, thus they take a big
risk. Sometimes when they purchase goods from producers,
the cost of the material is low and sometimes high, likewise, at
the time of supply to retailer, the cost of goods also fluctuates.
Therefore, they take a big risk. A wholesaler does not require
a shop at a fixed location, nor does he have to spend money
on advertising or on window display. Their margin of profit is
comparatively low to the retailer. They do not have to provide
after sale service to their customers or deliver goods to
consumers. Their customers are retailers and it is the duty of

5. Retail Market : A retailer is a person, who buys the goods from a wholesaler and sells
them to buyers for self uses. Several kinds of outlets exist in a retail market. These are
fixed as regular shops, super markets or bazaars, departmental stores and malls. Vendors
and hawkers also sell goods to customers in the streets of the markets.
Vendors are the people who move from place to place to sell their goods. Vendors buy goods
in a limited quantity and then sell goods at negotiable prices. They use everyday earnings
